Work, Eat, Sleep?

Posted by Simon in Kathmandu Blog

I guess that at any moment most of the world is doing one of these three things and that pretty much applies to me as well.

I came to Nepal to work and that’s what I spend most of my time doing.  There’s still a bit of sorting exactly where I fit into the school to be done, but my days have been full and productive.  Furthermore, I’ve had opportunities to indulge in my hobbies, playing the piano and performing action songs with the Primary Band as well as helping out with the table tennis elective.

Eating is a pleasure – I get hungry very quickly here.  Lunch at school is awesome, and between the cooking rota and a couple of cheap restaurants, food is very good.

Sleep is so crucial, just living here requires more energy than being back in the UK and sometimes the need to crash is overwhelming.  Fortunately this has been assisted by a room upgrade; I now have carpet which is infinitely warmer than a tiled floor and a bigger bed as well.

Man Walk
On Saturday, myself and 3 other guys went for a ‘Man Walk’.  First stop was the University, which didn’t quite have the landscaping of Exeter, but didn’t look unreasonable.  Most people there were using the campus as a motorbike training centre as they rode through homemade slaloms.  Continuing on from here we headed up towards a town in the hills where we were certainly more noticeable than in Kathmandu; as the only white faces to be seen, we seemed to be watched everywhere we went.

Our walk is now up to 3 hours, we’re working our way up towards a full day ‘big-boys’ hike.

Scrabble
During a discussion over Sunday Lunch in Wimpy, that’s right Wimpy, someone mentioned their deep need for a game of Scrabble but coupled this with their disappointment over the lack of a board.  Seeing as though I’ve been recently convicted of what a Sabbath should be, I volunteered with the help of 2 others to make a Scrabble set.  It took many hours, but I think you can clearly see that all the effort was worth it!

Health
I’d been promised that I would get ill in Nepal and as hard as I try I just keep staying healthy.  My theory is that after being so ill in Israel that my body can cope with whatever Kathmandu can throw at it.  That said pride comes before a fall  …

This weekend I’ll be joining the Church as they visit a Leprosy Hospital Open Day.  I’m not exactly sure what to expect, but I’m really looking forward to getting out of the city and seeing the work that goes on there.

Anyways, God Bless you all

Simon
